DIY Manicure

Some tips for an inexpensive but effective manicure:

Massage

Try massaging olive oil into your cuticles several times a week. This is a cheaper alternative to expensive products yet offers the same moisturizing properties.

Buff:

Buy a three-way buffer for your nails – it can save you money that you would otherwise have to spend on nail maintenance at a salon.

Base:

Always use a base coat when painting your nails. This crucial step provides protection for your nail beds and prevents discolouration from direct contact with the nail from polish. Additionally, skipping this layer may cause polish to appear streaky.

Polish:

Only use a small, thin layer for each coat of polish, and you should let each coat dry completely before applying the next one.

Smudge:

If you smudge your nails before they dry, smooth the damaged area with a dot of nail polish remover on a Q-tip. Do NOT remove polish from the entire nail. After it's completely dry, dab nail polish on the smudged area and let it dry.

Top Coat:

Finish and smooth the nail with a clear top coat – this will help protect your nail colour from chipping – and you’re good to go!
